Nehemiah 6:15-16 (KJV) 15 “So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth [day] of [the month] Elul, in fifty and two days. 16 And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard [thereof], and all the heathen that [were] about us saw [these things], they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.” (As we conclude this effort we will look at key events that happened as the wall was finished.) This moment takes them back to another encounter that they had had with an enemy. When their enemy would have to declare of Israel, “What hath God wrought” (Numbers 23:23)! Now that everything is done, Nehemiah organizes the people (Chapter 7). Then he calls for a gathering of the people so that they can hear the Word of the Lord preached to them by Ezra the priest (8:1-11). They found in the Word of the Lord that they should be observing a very important feast at that moment; The Feast of Tabernacles (Booths; verse 14-18). They were to live under temporary shelters outside for seven days. This was a moment for them to remember all that God had done for them in their 40 years of wondering in the wilderness. It was a feast of rejoicing (they still celebrate it to this day). In John 7, the Messiah would be in Jerusalem celebrating this same feast. On the last day of the feast He stands and cries out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink!” He is taking them beyond the symbols to the Substance; for He spake of the Holy Ghost. As you consider all that you have been petitioning God for during this time of consecration, put first-things-first today. Take the time to remember that if God had not done the work, it wouldn’t be done, whether it be wilderness, walls, or trying to find your way. Take the time to remember the real power that you now have through His Holy Spirit indwelling you! Your enemy knows that God’s good hand is upon you!
