How to Handle Bad News!

Isaiah 37:14 (NSRV) “Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; then Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord.”

The spokesman of the enemy, the Assyrians, sent a letter from the King of Assyria to Hezekiah letting him know what he planned to do and what he said he would do to that city. It was this letter with this terrible news that Hezekiah took to the house of the Lord and spread it out before Him. Then Hezekiah prayed about it. These actions led to a word from God and ultimate victory! Bad news comes to all of us. In fact, it seems right now that bad news is all we hear in our world. Many times we have no idea what to do about it. Sometimes the bad news comes to us as an attack that is designed to destroy us. Many times it is an event beyond our making. Whether it is a physical sickness, spiritual attack, financial trouble, etc., we should take the report of the bad news, place it before the Lord and pray to God about it. We should truly place it in His hands to handle, and then wait for an answer from God. We must turn our battles over to Him in absolute trust and let Him handle it. Let’s be thankful that we can put our hope and trust in our God!
