In 2 Corinthians 5:16 Paul says, "...we no longer know Christ through the flesh...". Paul explains we can no longer experience a relationship with Christ through His fleshly person. Jesus Christ has become the door, by death and resurrection, to a relationship through the Spirit. Paul says, "henceforth know we him no more". The only way to know Him now is through the Spirit. John says, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit"(3:6) and "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (4:24) Psalms 78:4 tells us God was "limited" by the people. The Bible is filled with examples of quenching God's will. A 40 year wilderness, Jonah, and the rich young ruler to name a few. The world's perception of God limits His manifestion in their lives, the same way it did when God, robed in flesh, walked into His hometown. Voices of those who knew Him through the flesh, as the carpenter's son, prevented Him from blessing them. Knowing Him through our flesh, our carnal thinking, limits us to the carnal realm of power, logic, and control. Only through the Spirit can we truly know and worship Christ.
