Let’s face it: letting go of past hurt is HARD. It’s just part of human nature to hold a grudge. It’s so easy to place blame on someone, but here’s the problem with that: it only creates more problems. If we burn bridges in our hypothetical walk to heaven, the only thing that does is stop other people from getting there, too.
A mentor in our congregation recently shared a piece of wisdom with me: it can be so hard to forgive the people that hurt us, but we have to remember that Jesus died for them, too. So when we are yet again reminded to “love God, love people,” that means everyone, even the ones that make it hard. According to Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:13, and Mark 11:25, that’s what Jesus did for you and me. It’s our duty to do that for others.
