The year of 2019 is about to conclude. I recall in the latter part of 2018 the conversations we had as we considered what would be the theme for Tyler Tabernacle in 2019. Pastor felt led that our theme should be “Better Together” based upon Ecclesiastes 4:9. As I reflect upon 2019, I can see how that was a God directed focus as unity was needed over and over again for the church to rise up and keep the kingdom first in all things. We began having those same conversations about 2020 recently. However, right from the start a thought took hold and has not let go: LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE; will be our theme for 2020. This is based upon the words of our Lord in Luke 10:27 (KJV) “And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” Through worship, discipleship, serving, we will seek the kingdom first by loving God and loving people. The context of the Lord’s statement was a conversation with a lawyer that led to the question: Who is my neighbor? To this question Jesus gave the parable of the Good Samaritan, and Christ commanded “go, and do thou likewise.” In the New Year, seek to be in the moment wherever you are by looking, listening, and responding to people that God is seeking to love through you.
