Easter Devotion by Sammy Draper John 13:34 (KJV) A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. This statement by our LORD comes at the conclusion of the ‘Last Supper’ and His march toward Gethsemane. A new commandment. That this was one of the top thoughts on His mind should matter deeply to us at this Easter Season. He was about to demonstrate the depths of His love by going to the cross; the execution stake. That Christ commands us to emulate Him in this way, is staggering. As we celebrate the resurrection of our LORD we should carefully consider the purpose of this event. Yes, it was the salvation of the world! Yes, it was to fulfill all the Law and the Prophets! Yes, He conquered sin, death, and hell in that one crowning moment! But when the dust settled at Calvary, when the stone that rolled away from the grave had now opened its door for our Deliverer, once He had walked among men and ascended into the heavens - what did He purpose for us? That His disciples should be marked by His “new commandment...love one another.” Are we living that? Not our nor the worlds definition of love; but Christ’s? We desperately need this today. Find someone today and love them with words and acts of kindness, affirmation, and hope. Sacrifice your own feelings, perspectives, prejudices, and points you feel justified to make - to love them as Christ would. Give a dark world the hope that Easter brings - a people that are known by their ability to “have love one to another".
