Philippians 4:6-7(NKJV) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace
of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
The key ingredient in this verse is thanksgiving. Many times we come to God in prayer and supplication, and we should. We are exercising our faith when we bring our needs to God. God teaches us here to not be worried or anxious about anything. We need to bring our requests to God. But sometimes this is where we stop. We forget the key ingredient, “with thanksgiving.” After bringing our needs to God in prayer, we are to also bring our thanksgiving. After asking Him, start thanking Him. Thank Him for hearing your prayer, thank Him in advance for answering, thank Him for answered prayers He has given you in the past. Thanksgiving increases our faith and lifts our spirits. Thanksgiving is sometimes a forgotten avenue to the miraculous. Make plans now to adapt an attitude and spirit of thanksgiving into your life. Keep a “Thankful Journal,” choose certain times each day to stop and thank the Lord, and when you feel anxious about something, pray and then thank God for the answer. Psalms 92:1-2 tells us, “...it is good to give thanks to the Lord...in the morning…[and] every night.”
Don’t be anxious! Be thankful instead!
