Depression had been dominant throughout my entire life. I always seemed to be going through the motions in worship, but with a dry sincerity. Next to Acts 2:38 and the one God message, Nehemiah 9:10 is one of the greatest revelations I have received. "...the joy of the Lord is my strength."
When I started coming to Tyler Tabernacle I was becoming free to worship and praise God with "joy unspeakable". Something had changed!
God reminded me of Romans 7:24 where Paul asked, "Who shall deliver me from this body of death?" God had delivered me from many things, but depression was always there. It was my body of death trying to destroy me. But God was working behind the scenes!
Isaiah 61:3 says He gave me the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness that He might be glorified! I was given the Joy of the Lord! His joy when I was in two car wrecks! His joy when my electricity was turned off! His joy when my brother passed away! His joy no matter how bad the situations have been! How exciting is that?!
With God we have hope, faith and love. Why not, with God, have joy? Joy which is imparted to us from Him! Just as in Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him", let's all proclaim, the Joy of the Lord is my strength! Jan Stotesbury
