One of my favorite verses is Nahum 1:7.
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble;
and he knoweth them that trust in him.”
I love the hope it brings. Notice it doesn’t say “The Lord is good and will keep you from troubles.” No, it says that He is a stronghold in the day of trouble. Literally meaning that God is a place that has been fortified so as to protect us against attack. There will be days of trouble.... but God! He is a fortress to protect us against the attack. Who can defeat the Lord?!? And that isn’t even the best part! The end of the verse says “and he knoweth them that trust in him.” When I give up my worry and fear and stress in the face of trouble, and I put my trust in God, He knows me. Let that sink in for a minute. To be known by God! We all have acquaintances that we sorta know and then we have those friends that “know” us. There is a difference, an intimacy in that difference. It denotes relationship. The Bible says that the Lord KNOWS those who trust Him. Who doesn’t want to be known by God?! There is never reason to fear the days of trouble with God as your stronghold, the God who knows you. So no matter what tomorrow holds, rain or sunshine, a mountain or a valley, a day of trouble or a day of victory.... let this verse be your anthem.
