What do you think of when you hear the word, watch? Often, we think of small gadgets, worn by many, ranging from the most simplistic to the newest technological advancement. It seemed that watches were only worn by those of older generations and were obsolete to the younger generation. But, technology's advancements have caused us to desire watches again. Habakkuk 2:1-2 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision,... According to Webster one definition for watch is :the act of keeping awake to guard, protect, or attend, and another is, the state of being wakeful, they prefaced this with the word obsolete. Google says, “obsolete indicates a term is no longer in active use, except, for example, in literary quotation.” Oh God,… Have biblical “watches” become obsolete to our generation? Are we no longer actively watching for Your coming, for the souls You've placed in our reach? Habakkuk was watching to see what God wanted to say to him. He actively waited until he heard Him speak! Do we make ourselves available to God? Have we been lulled to sleep by the desires of technology so much that we are not watching with Him? Yes, Pastor is the watchman on the wall, and I thank God for him, but Mark 13 ends with Jesus commanding “And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”
