Nehemiah 4:19-20 (KJV) 19 “And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work [is] great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. 20 In what place [therefore] ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.” As the work progressed the people found themselves further and further apart. The reality of being in a season of intense focus is that we all tend to drift away from important relationships while we are so focused. This can be when we are focused on our education, on our work, and yes - even while we are focused on the things of the kingdom. Fortunately, Nehemiah shows us a plan to overcome isolation while keeping our hands in the harvest; listen for the trumpet! When they heard the sound of the trumpet they dropped what they were doing, their own personal focus, and ran and rallied together to support one another. This speaks to two great truths to me: 1. Trumpets symbolize Divine Presence, Divine Communication. They were used to call people to worship. Yes, they were working. But in their work there was a higher purpose - worship. But their worship called them to war for their inheritance! Connect to the higher purpose of unified worship. 2. The rapture of the Church. There’ll come a day, though we are all living and working in our own pursuits, the trump will sound and call us home. Keep the bigger picture in mind when you feel isolated from others. Keep your hand to the plow and know that God and His people are with you!
