Nehemiah 5:5-6 (NKJV) 5 “Yet now our flesh [is] as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and [some] of our daughters have been brought into slavery. [It is] not in our power [to redeem them,] for other men have our lands and vineyards.” 6 And I became very angry when I heard their outcry and these words.” It has been one thing for Nehemiah to face the hardships of building the wall and dealing with enemies from without. But now he has had to face multiple enemies from within. We too walk in this reality. And now, the news that many of their young people have become slaves, it’s just too much. He becomes very angry. The choices of adults have a very real affect upon their children. They have been sold into slavery! Their children had become literal slaves. In our day, our choices can enslave our children to sin! John 8:34 (NLT) “Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.” Our enemy (sin and death and Satan) is constantly trying to dominate us. But they especially want our young people. Why? Because of what they represent: new life, new hope, the future. Can we not see this in our world right now? Though free physically, young people are more and more being brought into the bondages of sin. It must upset us greatly when we see this. And the church must stand against slavery! We must have a Nehemiah that will stand up and get angry enough to do something about the slavery of sin by refusing to compromise the very thing that will set people free; The Truth and Holiness (Separation). Look at sin for what it is, slavery. John 8:36 (NLT) “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”
