Nehemiah 4:13 (NKJV) “Therefore I positioned [men] behind the lower parts of the wall, at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.” Nehemiah’s response to fear wasn’t just a highly motivating speech to everyone; he has a strategy to strengthen the low places where they are most at risk. The lowest places, were the places most vulnerable to attack. These places required extra protection. The actual identifying of vulnerable areas underscores the importance of recognizing and fortifying areas of weakness. We are told to guard our hearts and minds against spiritual attacks. Nehemiah made sure families were together. This ensured that they had one another to watch each others backs (vulnerable places). This ensured accountability. This ensured a deeper strength beyond ones own abilities. Nehemiah made sure they were properly armed and ready to fight. Be honest about your weak places. We are told to confess our sins. It does us no good to try and act like we don’t have weak places. Get accountable. If you have a godly family, that is your starting place of accountability. If not, thank God for the church family. And finally, make sure you’re properly armed. Not with carnal (fleshly) weapons, but the whole armor of God. And then stand, even in your weak places, knowing that your God will fight your battles.
